NBA game cancelled in Mexico due to smoke

Mexico City, Dec 5 (IANS): The NBA game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Minnesota Timberwolves here was cancelled due to the smoke that filled the arena.

The NBA said in a statement that the game was postponed due to a generator malfunction which produced the smoke inside the Mexico City Arena Wednesday night, reports Xinhua.

The game was scheduled to begin at 8.30 p.m. local time but smoke filled the court an hour before the game.

A witness said that around 7.00 p.m. an explosion was heard in the stadium. Smoke started to come on the court and lights went out in parts of the arena when the players were warming up.

The game will be rescheduled on a date to be determined and will be played in Minneapolis' Target Center.
