Kundapur, Apr 18: Opposing the neglect of the Byndoor railway station, which facilities pilgrims to reach Kollur, citizens under the banner of the Byndoor Railway Station Agitation Committee on Monday, April 17 held back Rajdhani Express for more than 30 minutes.

Responding to the call for a self-imposed bandh, thousands of citizens of Byndoor participated in the agitation amidst elaborate security arrangements by police.

Speaking at the rail roko, Committee president Subraya Seregar expressed his anguish over lack of development in Byndor railway station. He warned of intensifying the agitation if a full fledged railway station does not materialise at Byndoor.

A demand was also placed to rename the station as Mookambika Railway Station within two months.

Condemned the discriminatory policies of the railway department the agitators demanded that all the trains should halt at Byndoor.

Konkani railway corporation Karwar unit regional official Lingaraju, who received the memorandum submitted by the committee, said that a proposal with an outlay of Rs 6 lac has already been sent to the Railway Board. He assured to meet their demands and start work as soon as sanction for the same is received.
