Mangalore, Apr 16: Hat’s off to the Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists’ Association for finally giving a kick start to the long-cherished dream of constructing a full-pledged complex for the Association.

The Association, which is presently functioning from a rented office in the Mangalore City Corporation building at Lalbaugh will soon have its own building near Urwa Church.

On Saturday senior journalist U Narasimha Rao laid the foundation for this building which will come up at a cost of Rs 50 lac. The Association building which will be christened ‘Patrike Bhavana’ which house state-of-the-art conference halls for conducting regular press meets. The building is expected to be complete within six months.

The Association has obtained funds from former KPCC president Janardana Poojary, Mangalore MP D V Sadananda Gowda, former Chief Minister Veerappa Moily, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade and also from institutions like Karnataka Bank.
 
Charan Adyanthaya of the engineering division of DK Zilla Panchayat is the contractor for constructing the Patrike Bhavana.

At the foundation stone laying ceremony were president of the association B Raveendra Shetty, general secretary Ramakrishna R, corporators Mahabala Marla, Shashidhar Hegde, Devananda Pai and Venkatesh Achar and also senior photographer Yajna.
