Mid-Day

Mumbai, Apr 11: Preliminary investigations of the body of the three-and-a-half-year-old girl, which was found in the septic tank of an under-construction public toilet in Bainganwadi, Govandi, yesterday, revealed that she had been raped and then strangled to death with a white handkerchief.

The victim’s body also had burn marks. Her clothes were found in the men’s section of the toilet.

The girl had gone missing on March 7 and a complaint had been lodged on the same night. Raju Shikare, her father, alleged that the police has not yet began thorough investigations.

“My daughter must have gone through hell. We have lost our only child and the people or man who did it should be punished, But that will only happen if the cops react fast,” said the distressed father.

The mother of the victim  and the locals also claim that the cops have been non-cooperative.

“It is a serious offence, but at the preliminary stage of investigation we cannot reveal anything,” said inspector PS Ranpise from Shivaji Nagar Police station.
