Australia's Neill likely to retain captaincy

Sydney, Nov 20 (IANS): Footballer Lucas Neill appears to keep his position as Australia captain after a solid display in their 1-0 win over Costa Rica here.

Tim Cahill headed in the vital goal in the 69th minute in the friendly Tuesday, reports Xinhua.

The longest-serving Socceroos captain has been criticised for abusing booing fans after the match. Neill reportedly exchanged angry words with a section of the crowd at the Sydney Football Stadium.

The 35-year-old had won the support of their coach Ange Postecoglou, who wanted people to move on from criticism of Neill.

"If nothing else, we can stop talking about Lucas Neill. To be fair to Lucas, he's handled this really well. I would have probably spat the dummy much earlier," Postecoglou said.
