Tickets sales for 2014 Brazil World Cup hit record high


Rio de Janeiro, Nov 11 (IANS): Ticket sales for next year's FIFA World Cup in Brazil have eclipsed the record set during the first purchasing phase for the 2006 tournament in Germany.

World football's governing body FIFA said in a statement that 889,305 successful applications were made during the initial ticketing window that closed Oct 10, reports Xinhua.

This eclipses the previous mark of 653,521.

According to FIFA, more than six million tickets have already been requested for the June 12 to July 13 event.

The second sales phase begins Monday and closes Nov 28.

A third and final instalment will be made available following the announcement of the World Cup draw Dec 6.
