Dawood offered cars to Indian cricketers in 1986: Vengsarkar

Mumbai, Oct 28 (PTI): Former skipper Dilip Vengsarkar today made a startling revelation about underworld don Dawood Ibrahim entering the Indian team dressing room and offering the players cars if they beat Pakistan in the final of the Sharjah tournament in 1986.

Vengsarkar claimed that Dawood had walked into the team's dressing room a day before the match and offered each player a Toyota car if they beat Pakistan and won the Austral-Asia Cup in Sharjah.

Vengsarkar said the fugitive gangster was introduced by the famous actor Mehmood as a businessman. However, Dawood was asked by the then India's captain Kapil Dev to walk out of the dressing room.

"Actor Mehmood was in our dressing room. Kapil Dev was not in the dressing room at that time because he had gone out to address the press conference. Dawood was introduced by actor Mehmood," Vengsarkar said at a function in Jalgaon.

"No one recognised him but I had seen his photographs. Mehmood introduced him to us as a big businessman from here. Mehmood said he wants to announce a prize for us. He said 'If you beat Pakistan tomorrow, everyone will get a car'. Jayawant Lele was our manager then," he added.

The match will be best remembered for the last-ball six hit by Javed Miandad off Chetan Sharma that helped Pakistan win the trophy.

I do not find anything interesting
in this news. In the year 1986 this
    incident happened. After 27 years,!
this can't be a news. This is just
    a publicity gimmick. Besides,
Dawood is capable of entering into
the dressing room. That's his profession. Betting, smuggling is his business. They are trying to show some honesty on Vengserkar and Kapil Dev. May be one of them
    is trying for Srinivasan's chair.?

See how many people got annoyed for writing against Dawood.
DAwood still has many admirers in India, so they will not tolerate anyone commenting against him.

even Sibbu Saren had threatened him, do this, otherwise?. This word, 'OTHEWISE' is the the weakness of Indian politics.
I wouldn't be surprised that someone has told MMS, don't open your mouth otherwise I will shave your..........

1.Why did Vengsarkar keep quiet for 27 years ? Did he get his memory back all of a sudden ?
2.Respect towards Kapil Dev has increased after knowing that he wanted to kick out Dawood from dressing room.
3.Chetan Sharma might have got TWO CARS for bowling full toss ball which was hit out of the stadium by Javed Miandad.
