Punjab proposes race courses, horse races


Chandigarh, Oct 25 (IANS): The Punjab government is likely to allow horse racing and betting in the state with the state cabinet Friday giving its clearance to a bill in this connection.

According to a government spokesman, the cabinet gave its approval for presenting the Punjab Horse Race (Regulation and Management) Bill 2013, in the forthcoming session of the state assembly from Oct 28.

As per the bill, there is a proposal to set up, manage and operate race courses along with betting activities.

The bill also provides stipulations for maintaining and keeping of horses, betting activities, exhibition of horses and other processes of horse races and all matters connected with it, the spokesman added.
