All Indian shuttlers lose at French Open


Paris, Oct 25 (IANS): It was a disastrous outing for Indian shuttlers here Thursday as all lost their respective second round matches at the French Open Super Series.

Both Saina Nehwal and P.V. Sindhu faltered in their women's singles matches as the Indian challenge came to an end at the Stade Pierre de Coubertin.

South Korea's Yeon Ju Bae overcame fourth seeded Saina in a thrilling one hour and 11-minute marathon battle 20-22, 21-15, 22-20. With the win, the World No.10 Yeon closed the career meet gap to 4-5 against Saina.

Elsewhere, Sindhu also lost her one-hour-long tie against Scot Kirsty Gilmour after winning the first game. The World No.30 upset the World No.11 Indian 10-21, 21-19, 21-16 in their first-ever encounter.

In men's singles, Malaysian World No.1 Lee Chong Wei accounted for Mumbai's Jayaram, winning 21-18, 21-18 while Thai sixth seed Boonsak Ponsana beat K. Srikanth 15-21, 21-18, 21-15 in less than an hour.

Also, Thailand's Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk beat Anand Pawar 22-20, 21-18 in 41 minutes.
