Mowbray sacked as Middlesbrough manager

London, Oct 22 (IANS): English football Championship side Middlesbrough dismissed Tony Mowbray as manager.

"Middlesbrough Football Club have today announced that manager Tony Mowbray has left the club with immediate effect," read a statement on the club's website Monday.

"Assistant manager Mark Venus will take charge of the team until further notice."

Mowbray, 49, was fired after the second tier club's 2-3 defeat Saturday at struggling Barnsley.

Recently, Middlesbrough suffered a poor run of results this season, having won just two of 12 Championship matches and was ousted from the League Cup in first round by League Two side Accrington.

Under Mowbray's reign since 2010, Middlesbrough finished 12th, seventh and 16th respectively.
