Serie A: Catania sack coach Rolando Maran

Rome, Oct 21 (IANS): Catania football club announced that they have sacked coach Rolando Maran and replaced him with former Genoa boss Gigi De Canio.

Catania's 2-1 loss against Cagliari Saturday in the Italian Serie A turned out to be the final straw which prompted Catania to fire Maran.

"Calcio Catania announce they have removed Rolando Maran from his position. We give him our most heartfelt thanks for the work done and wish him the best for his on-going career," a Catania statement said Sunday.

"The first team has been handed to Luigi De Canio," it added.

De Canio was fired by Genoa in October 2012.
