Mangalore, Mar 19: By a modest estimate over five thousand people partook of a festival of worship when the 'White Doves' singing group presented an inspirational music concert called 'Stand up and Give Him Praise 2006', featuring leading musicians and singers from Mangalore, Mangalore and Mumbai on Saturday evening on St Agnes Special School Grounds. As a large number of people kept entering the venue and leaving at regular frequency, it is possible that the above estimate could be an understatement.

The live-wire organizer of the concert and brain behind the White Doves group Corrine Rasquinha herself compered the show with ease and elan, ably supported in the organizational work by her husband Vitus and his associates.

The concert was inaugurated by Bendur parish priest Fr Peter Noronha and doves were symbolically released and flown. As those doves flew away, it was the turn of the White Doves to take over and  take the listeners to further heights of musical ecstasy.

The sublime ambience of the concert was further accentuated by the high-level stage specially put up for the occasion, which featured top-notch musicians like Jerome Coelho on bass guitar, Oscar Weltha on violin and saxophone, Nigel on trumpet and Melvyn Fernandes on drums, joined by Robert, Nelson, Jason, Vijesh and Collin and others, with leading vocalists like Roshan, Amabel Moras and others, not forgetting Dulhan coming all the way from Sri Lanka.

The nine musicians and thrityfive singers held the audience under their sway for about three hours. Expected to wind up by 8-30 pm, it went on beyond 9-00 pm, enthusing the performers by convincing them that the listeners were asking for more.

The efforts and logistics that went behind the presentation were indeed awesome and daunting, taking into account the fact that the admittance was free and all the expenses were defrayed through the generosity of donors and sponsors.
