Dammam, March 14: West Coast NRI Forum from Saudi Arabia has been taking a keen initiative towards the development of Mangalore Airport and working for direct international flight operations to Mangalore.

As the momentum started gaining in a big way towards landing international flights at Bajpe airport, West Coast NRI Forum met along with Kannada Koota Jubail members in Hotel Sea & Shore, Jubail last week to put further pressure on the authorities and airlines.
 
Farooque Sabandari, president of West Coast NRI Forum, Saudi Arabia (WCNRIF) who has taken the lead presided over this important meeting.

Muhammad Quaiser, Regional Sales and Marketing Manager, Indian Airlines was the chief guest.
 
Members who had gathered at the meeting put an appeal to the national carrier ‘Indian’ (Formerly Indian Airlines)  to commence a direct flight from Dammam to Mangalore
 
“This is long-pending dream of the residents of the districts of Mangalore, Udipi, besides Bhatkal, Honnavar, Karwar, Coorg and boundary-zone residents of neighbouring Kerala” said Sabandari.
 
Narayan Bhat appealed on behalf of the NRI Forum, Saudi Arabia to Muhammad Quaiser to take the initiative to persuade Indian airline to start a direct flight from Dammam to Mangalore direct to make Saudi NRI’S dream a reality.


 
“There are a huge number of Mangaloreans and neighbouring Kannur and Kasargod people residing in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia. If Indian airline takes the initiative of flying direct from Daharan airport to Mangalore it will be a great help for the Mangaloreans residing here”
 
“We are extremely happy to read the news on daijiworld that, direct flight from Mangalore to UAE will commence on May 7 and many other airlines are planning to fly the same route” he said
 
Mahadev Hebbar, Secretary of WCNRIF welcomed the chief guest. A large number of Karnataka NRIs had assembled at the meeting.
 
Steven Rodrigues introduced the chief guest to the gathering. Vishwanath Kamath, chief organizing convener of WCNRIF and Kannada Koota, Jubail (KKJ) compered the meeting.
 
Shabbir Honnala, West Coast NRI Forum general secretary, expressed his happiness over the success of Karnataka Celebrations-2006 and also urged all to extend wholehearted support to the activities of the forum.
 
Dignitaries in the audience included Bajpe Zakariah of Anabeeb, Ratnakar of Al-Jabr, Valerian Mendonca of SABIC and Richard Rodrigues, a well-known businessman.
 
Muhammad Ali complimented all for their gracious presence and thanked all for making the evening function a grand success. He sought cooperation from all to make the activities of the forum a beneficial to all NRI’s of Karnataka State.
