Brathwaite, Fudadin rescue West Indies A

Shimoga, Oct 2 (IANS): A 117-run partnership for the fourth wicket between opener Kraigg Brathwaite (82) and Assad Fudadin (63) rescued West Indies ‘A’ who finished the first day on 283 for six in their first innings against India ‘A’ in the second four-day game here Wednesday.

The 20-year old Brathwaite, who scored 92 and 34 in the previous game that the Windies won at Mysore, was again in the forefront of a rescue act as he batted with commendable maturity.

Fudadin, who had made 86 not out at Mysore, provided splendid company to Brathwaite as the pair, coming together at 98 for three, pulled the Caribbean unit out of the woods.

However, both Fudadin and Brathwaite departed after strikes by left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt and off-spinner Pervez Rasool before Leon Johnson (36 batting) and Chadwick Walton (30) added 68 runs for the sixth wicket.

Bhatt came away with three for 76 while the Windies will be looking to Johnson on the morrow to take them to relative safety against a side that is brimming with quality batsmen of international repute, including skipper Cheteshwar Pujara, Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag.

Brief scores:

West Indies ‘A’ 283 for 6 in 90 overs (Kraigg Brathwaite 82, Assad Fudadin 63, Leon Johnson 36 batting, Chadwick Walton 30, Bhargav Bhatt 3 for 76) vs India ‘A’).
