India U-21 3on3 hoopsters win bronze in China


Beijing, Oct 1 (IANS): The Indian 3on3 basketball team comprising Ajay Pratap Singh, Lovneet Atwal, P. Vijay and Amit Kanarjee brought home the bronze medal from the U-21 3ON3 International Challenge held here from Sep 28-30.

Atwal also secured a gold for India in the 3 Pointer shooting competition Sunday.

The tournament, organised by the Chinese Basketball Association, had 12 teams competing against each other. India, Lithuania, the United States, Australia, Germany, Indonesia, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei and four Chinese teams were divided into Pool A, B and C.

In the league matches Sep 28, India finished with a 2-1 win-loss record, losing to Chinese Taipei by two points and defeating Indonesia and the United States to qualify for the quarter-finals.

In the quarters Sep 29, India beat a Chinese team 21-17 but lost to Australia 13-16 in the semi-final.

India won the bronze on the virtue of having the better score difference than other semi-finalist Chinese Taipei.
