Mumbai, Feb 25: Police shot dead a Chhota Rajan gangster at J B Nagar in suburban Andheri on Friday evening, even as one of its officers received bullet injuries in a retaliatory fire from the gangster, police said.
Rabela Richard Marberia (32), a close associate of gangster Subhashsingh Thakur and member of Rajan gang, reportedly visited a place in J B Nagar on Friday evening, when a police team, following him challenged Rabela, leading to exchange of fire between them.
According to police sources, Rabela was seriously wounded in the exchange of fire, while API Jagdish Sail sustained a bullet injury on his shoulder. Both were rushed to the nearby Cooper hospital where Rabela was pronounced dead on arrival.
Additional commissioner of police (western region) Bipin Bihari said that injuries to Sail were not of serious nature.
