Bengal minor chokes to death imitating hanging

Kolkata, Sep 9 (IANS): A 12-year-old boy "addicted to cartoon shows", was found suffocated to death after allegedly trying to imitate a suicide scene in his house in West Bengal's Nadia district, police said Monday.

The incident happened in Krishnaganj Saturday evening when Class 6 student Tanmay Biswas was discovered hanging from the ceiling with a towel around his neck.

"We have registered a case of unnatural death and it seems he was trying to imitate a hanging scene shown in the TV," a police officer said.

The incident happened when his parents were not at home while the boy stayed back to watch his favourite TV show "Chota Bheem".

"He was addicted to cartoon shows and would often imitate the scenes. I wanted to take him along but he stayed home to watch TV. Had I compelled him to accompany me, this would not have happened," said his mother, who had gone to visit a neighbour that evening.

His father too said there was no reason for his son to commit suicide.
