One injured in security forces' firing in Srinagar


Srinagar, Sep 7 (IANS): One person was injured when security forces fired at a vehicle near the city centre, Lal Chowk, Saturday evening after the driver reportedly refused to stop at a security checkpost, police said.

A senior police officer told IANS security forces in Budshah Chowk area signaled a private car to stop for checking, but the driver ignored the signal and tried to speed away.

"Security forces fired at the vehicle's tyre to stop it. One occupant in the car has sustained an injury in his leg. He has been shifted to hospital," said the officer.

Youths from the adjacent Maisuma area came out of their homes and started pelting stones at the security forces immediately afterwards.

Tension mounted in the area after the incident.

A high alert had been sounded in the Valley to provide security to the Zubin Mehta concert held here Saturday.
