AFF Women's Championship to kick off Monday


Yangon, Sep 7 (IANS): ASEAN Football Federation's (AFF) Women's Championship will kick off at the Youth training Centre here Monday.

It will be a test for the contending teams bound for the 27th South East Asian (SEA) Games to be hosted by Myanmar in December. Japan U-23, Australia U-19 and Jordan will participate in the championship along with ASEAN countries, reports Xinhua.

Ten teams are divided in two groups. Australia U-19, Vietnam, Thailand, Jordan and Malaysia are in Group A while Japan U-23, Myanmar, Laos, the Philippines and Indonesia are in Group B.

Myanmar will take part in the championship with its 26 tentative selected players and the team has recently capped 20 finalists. Japanese coach Kumada is expected to bring the team to higher standards.
