K Ashraf, mayor, at a press meet on Tuesday February 14, said that the government will provide a subsidy of Rs 40,000 for which the applicant has to pay a sum of Rs 5000.

Answering a query whether the beedi rollers could afford to pay the application fee of Rs 5000, the mayor said that he would put forth the issue during the next MCC meeting and will try to find a possible solution.

The project is part of the Centre’s plan to provide houses to all homeless beedi workers and mine workers.
