Karkala, Feb 16: A group of women chain snatchers was caught by the Hebri police during the famous annual feast of Hebri temple near here on Tuesday February 14.

On Tuesday as a woman who had come to the feast was buying some fruits and flowers, the gold chain in her neck fell down.  On observation it was founded that the chain was cut with the help of a pair of scissors.  She immediately shouted for help.  Hearing her, the people present there informed the police.

The police who arrived without any delay succeeded in arresting the woman who had tried snatching the chain.  As soon as the news of her arrest spread in the area, more women who had lost their chains during the feasts at Mandarti, Madamakki and Hebri came and registered complaints with the police.

The police also succeeded in arresting the accomplices of the chain snatcher.  There were 5 women in the group who are said to be hailing from Tamil Nadu.  Among the five, 3 are young women, one is in her family way and the other has a child.  But the police were unable to recover the stolen chains from them.

They were released on the same evening with a warning.
