Panaji, Feb 15: Goa chief minister Pratapsingh Rane on Tuesday remained non committal over the international airport at Mopa while participating in the question-answer hour of state legislative assembly.

Opposition BJP members raised the question pertaining to international Mopa airport in the session.

"The matter has been referred to the Prime Minister and committee of experts have been formed," Rane said replying to a question.

When asked why land acquisition for the airport had been stalled, Rane said that the land acquisition proceedings could be started any time once project got permission.

He admitted that there was opposition for this airport from certain quarters.

Talking about whether existing Dabolim airport would continue, Rane commented, "Mopa airport is being planned keeping in mind the need for next 25 years and to enable larger aircraft to land there.''

Throughout the discussion, Rane remained non-committal about the international airport though he did show his inclination  towards it.  "We have to consider about future condition and planning should be done in that respect," he said. (with PTI inputs)
