Mangalore, Feb 14: In a joint press release by Prof Y Bhaskar Shetty, president, Association of First Grade College Principals of Mangalore University and K Devraj, secretary, it was stated that many degree colleges in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Coorg districts, have still not received fee concession and scholarship amount for the past three years.

The association has requested the government to release the funds immediately towards reimbursement of fee concessions and other scholarship amount payable to degree colleges under the Mangalore University.

Students whose parental income is less than Rs 11,000 per month are exempted from paying tuition fee, laboratory fee and examination fee, according to the government notification.  As per the agreement, this loss of fee income has to be reimbursed to the colleges by the government.

While the government on the one hand refers to shortage of funds for reimbursement, the colleges on the other hand have to face financial difficulty.

The release added that owing to the above reasons, the colleges will have to collect fees from students prior to issuing hall tickets and the poor students will even have to discontinue their studies in the bargain.
