Beltangady, Feb 14: In a shocking tragedy, a young couple who had married just a year ago, ended life by consuming poison in their house at Kadambu of Melantattu near Pottukere here on Monday February 13.  The tragedy has left the family members shell-shocked as the couple had a one and half year-old girl child who has become orphan now.

Uday Achari (23), son of S Mukund Achari and Sarita (20), daughter of Shyamray Achari had married two years ago.  Theirs was a love marriage.  Uday, who was a goldsmith, had opened his own shop at Pottukere near Guruvayankere after his marriage.  Prior to his marriage he was working in Puttur.

However, recently he had taken to alcohol.  Enraged and disturbed by this, his parents had asked him to live in a separate house along with is wife and kid.  Accordingly, they were living in a rented house at Pottukere.

Recently, he was also involved in a dispute over family property.  He had 4 brothers and a sister who too were involved in the same dispute.  Moreover, of recent he faced financial problems too, said the family sources.

On Monday Uday along with his wife Sarita came to his house and gave their child to his parents and asked them look her after well.  Then he consumed poison, in front of his mother.  Though his mother tried to snatch the bottle from his hand, she did not succeed.  In the meantime, Sarita too consumed poison.

The poison was so strong that even before doctor was informed Uday and Sarita fell on the ground and died in each other's embrace.  Uday's mother Umavati was the dumb spectator to this tragedy.

The Beltangady police have registered a case in this regard.
