23 militants killed in Afghanistan


Kabul, Sep 1 (IANS): Twenty-three militants have been killed in separate military operations across Afghanistan since Saturday, the interior ministry said Sunday.

Afghan National Police, supported by the army and coalition troops, launched several raids in Laghman, Baghlan, Uruzgan, Logar, Khost, Helmand and Nimroz provinces, killing 23 Taliban militants and detaining nine other suspects, Xinhua quoted the ministry as saying said in a statement.

Police also seized weapons. The reoport, however, did not say if there were any casualties among the security forces.

In addition, police defused 13 anti-vehicle mines in Uruzgan, Logar and Herat provinces in the same period.
