Udupi, Feb 10: Prof V Chandrashekhar (79), fondly known as Prof V C, the former principal, passed away in his residence at Mysore earlier this week.

Prof Chandrashekhar was the principal of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) from 1975 to 1979.  Though he was fully involved in academic activities, he had ample time to engage himself in social activities too.  He was popular not only among his students and staff but even with the common folk, who he loved spending time with. 

Through Rotary Club, he was involved in many social work activities.  A vibrant and committed Rotarian, later he was also the Rotary governor.

He was also the director of Institutions of Engineers and secretary of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

Prof V C is survived by two sons and two daughters.
