Mangalore, Feb 10: So it is the usual time of promises for the new government.  Whenever a new government takes charge, new promises too galore.  Our politicians are the best in business when it comes to promises, if not fulfilling them.

So those who want to satisfy themselves with promises and not results should approach the government with their demands.  Without a second thought the chief minister and other ministers "promise" to look into the matter or "promise" to solve the problems etc.

This is being proved very true these days by the new government in the state which assumed charge on Friday February 3.  Speaking with the a high level delegation that involved senior litterateurs and others, the chief minister and his deputy promised to speak with the union government to establish a separate Mangalore division for railways.

They promised the delegation that all efforts will be done to convince the union government to start the Mangalore Division and merge it with South-West Railway division.  Mangalore division will also include Kasargod as part of it.

The fresh-looking Kumaraswamy and Yediyurappa also assured the delegation which included the likes of Kannada Development Authority member Pradeep Kumar Kalkura and former Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Harikrishna Punaroor that the Pilikula Nature Park will soon be re-christened as Dr Shivram Karant Nature Park as ordered by the previous government.

Meanwhile, the delegation also urged the government to start Bangalore-Mangalore rail service at the earliest and merge Kasargod with Karnataka.  The delegation further appealed the government to organize World Kannada Convention in the city.

Off-track, for too long !
