Udupi, Feb 10: Within 24 hours of the accident at Muloor near Kaup on the National Highway 17 on Wednesday February 8 night, another road accident at Koppalangady claimed the life of an ex-serviceman on Thursday February 9 afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Sulaiman Akhtar (62), a resident of Bailoor near Badagubettu near here. He was on his way to the city riding his motorbike when the accident took place around 2.30 in the afternoon on Thursday.  A lorry ahead him suddenly turned to the left towards Kaup lighthouse without giving any signal.  As a result, Sulaiman's bike which was immediately behind rammed into the lorry and he was thrown on to the road.

As a result he was injured seriously and was admitted to a private hospital in the city.  However, he succumbed to the injuries there later in the evening.

Sulaiman Akhtar was an active member of Ex-servicemen’s Multipurpose Society at Adi-Udupi.  He was also the director of the same for the last 5 years.

He is survived by wife and a son.  The Kaup police have registered a case in this regard.
