Speedo support for Indian swimmers


Bangalore, Aug 24 (IANS): Leading swimwear brand Speedo Saturday announced its support to the Indian junior team participating at the 4th FINA World Junior Swimming Championships to be held at Dubai Aug 26-31.

At a ceremony here, Speedo extended its support by proving the team comprising four boys and two girls appropriate apparel and training aids for the event.

The Indian squad comprises of Ananya Panigrahi (100m and 200m Backstroke), Meenakshi VKR (100m and 200m Butterfly, 200m and 400m Individual Medley), Bobby Rana (50m, 100m, 200m Butterfly), Mitesh Kunte (200m, 400m Freestyle, 200m Butterfly), Pranam B (50m, 100m, 200m Backstroke) and Yaqoob (200m, 800m and1500m Freestyle).

Marketing Head of Speedo India, Dominic Vijay said: “As an organisation that believes in promoting and encouraging swimming at all levels, it is indeed a privilege for us to be supporting these young swimmers as they represent India in Dubai.

“We are confident that they will not only make us proud but also inspire other young people to participate and enjoy the sport. We wish them all the best.”

Delighted at Speedo's support towards these young swimmers, DC Kagathra, head coach of the team said: “It is always reassuring for the sport and its participants in the country when reputed brands such as Speedo step up to extend their support to India's quest for medals.

“Each of these swimmers has worked very hard and the encouragement that the backing of a brand such as Speedo provides is highly reassuring as they look at competing at the international level.”

The Championships will witness more than 180 participants from 29 countries battle it out at the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Sports Complex, Dubai. The Indian team, consisting of 6 swimmers, 4 boys and 2 girls will be participating in the event.
