Ankita leads on Day 2 of Hero women's golf


Bangalore, Aug 22 (IANS): With the day's best round of three under 69 and a total score of 145 (76,69), Delhi's Ankita Tiwana showcased some exceptional skills to lead the Hero-KGA Women's Pro-Golf Championship at the end of 36 holes.

Trailing Ankita by one and two shots respectively were overnight joint leaders Vani Kapoor and rookie Shweta Galande at second and third positions. The Rs.5 lakh event is the eighth leg of the tour which will culminate Friday at the KGA golf course.

Kenya's Bhavi Shah shared a part of the limelight Thursday amidst an average performance through a hole-in-one on the fourth hole.

Ankita, who started with a bogey on the very first hole, stabilised her game quickly with birdies on fourth, ninth, 13th and 16th. She ended her round with three under 69 to lead at the end of the second round.

Vani had a rough day as she finished her round with a total score of 146 (72, 74) at the end of 36 holes. Vani's only respite was a lone birdie on the fifth that was followed by three bogeys on the seventh, eighth and 11th holes.

Rookie Shweta finished with a total score of 147 (72, 75). Shweta's round consisted of bogeys on third, 12th and 14th.

Veteran Smriti Mehra (79, 70) and Chandigarh's Saaniya Sharma (79, 70) are tied on fourth with identical scores of 148 at the end of the second round, also carded the day's second best scores of two under 70 with Saaniya playing the day's only bogey free round. Kolkata's Neha Tripathi is placed sixth.
