Mangalore, Feb 3: The inauguration of the preparatory programmes for the upcoming  convention of Navodaya Self Help Groups scheduled to be held at Karkala on Saturday February 25 and Sunday February 26, was held on Thursday February 2 here.

Speaking after inauguration, Dr H V Parshwanath, deputy commissioner, said that the district co-operative bank was a role model in the state.  He added that since the bank president was also the president of the State Apex Bank, good performance can be expected in the Apex Bank also.

K S Suresh Babu, inspector general of police (Western Range), said that people in the district take everything as a challenge  and added that Dakshina Kannada district is a ‘jewel in the crown’ in many fields including the co-operative sector.

M N Rajendra Kumar, managing trustee, Navodaya Grama Vikas Charitable Trust, who presided, said that the purpose of organizing the convention was to develop self confidence and unity among the members of the Self Help Groups.  The Groups have also been formed in Uttara Kannada districts, looking at the discipline and socio-economic development of SDGs in the district, he added.
