Gowda qualifies for discus throw final at Worlds


Moscow, Aug 12 (IANS): India's Vikas Gowda qualified for the discus throw final of the World Athletics Championships at the Luzhniki Stadium here Monday.

The 30-year-old registered a throw of 63.64 metres in his first attempt, his longest of the day. In the next two attempts, however, Gowda disappointed -- throwing 62.59m and 62.67m, respectively.

However, his 63.64m was good enough for him to get into the final as the Commonwealth Games silver medallist finished fourth in Group A while he finished an overall seventh.

Robert Harting of Germany recorded the longest throw (66.62m).

The 12 finalists will compete for the medals Tuesday.
