Jharkhand to directly recruit medal winners

Ranchi, Aug 11 (IANS): The Jharkhand government said Sunday that it will directly recruit players who win medals at national and international events.

"There is a provision of direct recruitment in government job to a player who has made a mark at the national and international level," an official statement said.

The sports department has been directed to study the sports promotion programmes of other states.

The government also plans to help out players who are finding it tough to eke out a decent living.

On Aug 9, the government gave away a cheque for Rs.5 lakh to Bigan Soy, who was part of the Indian team which won the bronze in the Junior Women's Hockey tournament in Germany.
