Dominica among big movers in women’s world ranking


Zurich, Aug 4 (IANS/CMC): Dominica was among a handful of teams which gained significantly and moved closer to the top 100 of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking.

In the August rankings released Saturday, Dominica climbed six places to 110th in the world and 12th in the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) region, reports CMC.

The US remain the top ranked team in the world with Germany in second place ahead of Japan, Brazil and Sweden. Other teams in the top ten who have made up ground include Canada (7th, up 1), Australia (8th, up 2) and Korea DPR (8th, up 1).

India, having played very few international matches, remain in 50th position in the world while they are ranked 11th in the Asia zone.

Trinidad and Tobago is the highest ranked team in the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) at 46th, followed by Haiti (57th), Dominica (110th), Antigua (118th), and Jamaica (120th).

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking will be published Dec 13.
