Bangalore, Jan 29: The Janata Dal (S) rebel-BJP government in Karnataka would take oath on February 3, rebel leader H D Kumaraswamy said on Saturday.

Karnataka Governor TN Chaturvedi invited Kumaraswamy to form the government in the state.

After a meeting with the Governor on Saturday evening, Kumaraswamy told reporters that the Governor had asked him to prove his majority on the floor of the House within eight days.

Earlier in the day, N Dharam Singh resigned as chief minister after the Governor had made it clear to him that he could not grant any more time to prove majority. Singh had failed to prove majority before the January 27 deadline set by the Governor.

On another day of fast-paced developments after the Assembly was adjourned sine die with him failing to obtain the confidence vote, Singh met the Governor around noon and sought more time. However, Chaturvedi was in no mood to oblige.
