Iran-Ghana football friendly cancelled

Tehran, July 28 (IANS): The friendly football match between Iran and Ghana was cancelled after Iran announced that it would not hold a training camp in Portugal.

Iran planned to hold a training camp in Lisbon, Portugal, in August but it was cancelled due to a lack of funds, reports Xinhua.

"We intend to advance to the next round in the 2014 World Cup but it will not happen without adequate resources," Iran coach Carlos Queiroz said here in a news conference Saturday.

Queiroz rebuffed the speculations that he is not interested in playing with the big teams. He said: "I don't know where the speculations come from. We have to learn from friendlies and for example we cannot play the teams such as Brazil."

Iran has plans to play a friendly match with Venezuela in preparation for the 2014 World Cup.
