Trinidad to participate in four-nation tournament

Port of Spain (Trinidad), July 28 (IANS/CMC): The Trinidad and Tobago national football team will participate in a four-nation football tournament in September, involving hosts Saudi Arabia, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates.

The invitational tournament will be held Sep 6-10 at the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh, reports CMC.

“We were just able to confirm it recently. It’s going to be in Saudi Arabia. We’re going to be playing the United Arab Emirates and the winner between Saudi Arabia and New Zealand,” said Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) General Secretary Sheldon Phillips.

The Trinidad and Tobago-United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia-New Zealand fixtures will take place Sep 6, with the final slated for Sep 10.

Phillips said the team would not be in training before the tournament because most of the players will be with their clubs.

The “Soca Warriors” were eliminated from the quarter-final round at the CONCACAF Gold Cup by Mexico last Saturday.
