Mangalore, Jan 26: The district crime branch nabbed seven people by exposing a fake registration certificate (RC) net and seized a total of five Toyota Qualis cars and a Santro car on Tuesday.
 
Speaking to newspersons in City on Wednesday, inspector general of police (western range K S Suresh Babu said as Mangalore south police inspector H N Venkatesh Prasanna got specific information on the issue, the crime branch PSI Anand Kumar and team took Dinesh, a native from Uppinangady into custody and nabbed seven people on the basis of information given by him.

The arrested are Anwar from Jeppu Patna, Asif Iqbal from Thumbe, Sharif from Adyar Olachchil, Ismail from Nandavar, Jamal and Nazir from Ullal and a ICICI bank employee Prameet.

The arrested were involved in preparing duplicate vehicle RCs and deceiving the banks by obtaining loans through the duplicate RCs, stated SP B Dayananda.

The arrested used to approach the vehicle owners who intended to sell their cars, paying a certain amount and got the photo copy of the original RC and used to prepared two or three fake certificates to get loans from banks, he explained.
 
They used to obtain two or three loans per each car. Ismail, the prime accused was preparing the RTO seals. He had the duplicate of RTO seals of Mangalore, Puttur, Udupi, Shimoga and Bangalore, which have been seized, SP stated.

The arrested have taken loans to the tune of  Rs 50 lac loans in name of eleven cars. One more car has already been seized by the police at Channarayapatna, which met with an accident recently. The remaining are yet to be recovered, he informed.
