CCF national chief calls social workers to serve the rural masses

Mangalore: Social workers must serve the rural masses said Christian Children's Fund (CCF) national director Dola
Mohapatra. He was speaking on changing face of family: challenges and responses, after inaugurating a South India-level seminar. The programme was jointly organised by St Aloysius Institute of Social Work and CCF at the college campus on Tuesday. Some changes in the society system are good while some are not for the growth of the child and the society. The family break up in a rural area leads to a enormous disaster and thus they (rural masses) need our services the most." he said.

While the urban somehow thrive, it is the rural mass which struggles as post modernism has not reached them.
"No richness is more rewarding than the noble cause of catering the needs of one rural child. Every family must be empowered to ensure the welfare of their child. CCF has thus initiated the family helper programmes in India," he informed.

Banjara Academy chairman Ali Khwaja, in his key note address said that the drift towards higher degree of technological advancements and sudden leap in the growth of the standard of living has resulted in losing our own human relationships. Tracing the history of the family system, Khwaja said that the last two generations showed the family concept breaking. Large joint families are giving way to the nuclear families. The old age homes to put away elderly grandparents are on the rise. Divorce rates are high and number of single parents is steadily increasing. Many young couples consciously restrict their children to one or two, he explained. With this change in lifestyle, the basic concept of family as the ultimate refuge where one gets unconditional love, peace and joy is under threat. This is the biggest challenge in the 21st century, said Khwaja. He further called every individual to have long investments in their families.

St Aloysius Institution rector Fr Francis Serrao, principal Fr Eugene Lobo, Social Work department dean Prof Hilda Rayappan, staff co-ordinator Loveena Lobo and student co-ordinator Wilfred Lasrado were also present on the occasion.
