Xtasy Amazing Kids awards to be conferred

Mangalore: City based Excellent Dance Academy is organising Xtasy Awards and Xtasy Amazing Kids Awards 2006 programme at St Aloysius College on Sunday at 6 pm.

Speaking to newspersons, organiser Shivkumar said that the event, Xtasy Awards 2006 is a platform where the students of Mangalore Excellent Dance Academy will be rewarded.

He informed that Excellent Dance Academy has initiated to honour the kids from every field who are extraordinarily outstanding, sensational, exceptional or possess a unique talent with  Xtasy Amazing Kids Awards 2006. Mohammed Suhail Pakkaladka and Kamalesh Baldev were present at the press meet.

Synergy-2006, IT fest begins from Thursday

Mangalore: The green revolution is the theme of Synergy-2006, a international-level management and IT festival which will be organised by Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwar College of Business Management. Speaking to newspersons, college principal Devraj K said that the event will commence from Thursday to Saturday.

"The management fest which was started in 1998 had grown from university-level to national-level. This year, the college will host an international-level for the first time in the district", he said.

 A university-level BCA fest, Xel 2006 will also be organised. The preliminary events will be held on Thursday and Friday at the college auditorium. The final events will take place at the TMA Pai International Convention Centre on Saturday.

The event will be inaugurated by dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade. Corporation Bank general manager A Mohan Rao and Canara Bank general manger (acting) T D Pai will be the chief guests.

"The purpose of organising the fest is to inculcate management skills and encourage teamwork among the students to enrich themselves in knowledge and experience," he explained.

He said that eminent management consultants, industrialists, top executives from Infosys, MRPL and various companies will participate as judges. About 20 colleges including five from foreign countries of Bahrain, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh will take part in the fest.
 
"We have invited companies to conduct interviews for placement. As the large companies do not go to the rural places, rural students will be benefited by such programmes." he informed.

Fire at Attur-Karkala causes loss of Rs 35,000

Karkala: A cattle-shed adjacent to the house of Netravati Nayak of Nityananda Kripa in Gundyadka near Attur here caught fire on Friday afternoon causing a loss of about Rs 35,000.

The haystack in shed was left in ashes. Timely action on the part of the Karkala fire brigade prevented the fire spreading to the house, which could have meant a major disaster.

Man drowns in Netravati

Bantwal: Gangadhara Belchada (35) slipped into the Netravati river at Inolikadavu near Farangipet on Saturday afternoon,

Gangadhar was the son of Dooma Belchada of Tumbe-Peruva.

He is survived by wife, two little daughters and a son.  Bantwal rural police have registered a case.
