Udupi, Jan 20: The case of the public of the area apprehending a youth as he was trying to snatch a gold chain of two sovereign from the person of a woman walking in lonely place at Kutyar Garadi in broad daylight has been reported from Shirva.

The woman was carrying load of home-grown jasmine to be sold in the market on Thursday. As she was passing through a deserted area around 11-30 am , Balu (25), hailing from Doddanagudde-Karamballi in Udupi, suddenly stopped her, gagged her mouth with his hand and snatched her gold chain.

As he let her off and was running away she shouted for help. People nearby gave him a chase and caught him, later handing him over to the police.

He had reportedly borrowed a motocycle from a friend and used it to arrive at the spot, the police said.
