Mangalore, Jan 16: Faculty of Rural Management Charles Sturt University, Australia Prof Tony Mckenzie was the resource person at the one-day professional development workshop on designing teaching around learner needs at the College of Leadership and HR Development, AIMS INSIGHT, Valencia on Sunday.

In his sessions, he emphasized the design of teaching methods which should facilitate both surface learning and deep learning. He also advised the teacher participants to encourage reflective learning among their students.

The inaugurator, Udupi MGM College principal Prof M L Samaga, said that out of the communication skills and risk-bearing ability taught in colleges for higher education, the latter is the need of the hour, said.

Expressing his views on designing methods in teaching, Samaga said that these must be based on learners' needs. He further added that they must also be co-ordinated with the evaluation system.

Discussion on feasibility and relation of the methods used to teach should also be undertaken for effective designing of teaching methods, said Samaga further.

CLHRD principal Prof P P Sharma was also present on the occasion.
