Udupi, Jan 14: The ‘Tungabhadra Ulisi Horata Okkuta’ has demanded that Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Limited (KIOCL) announce the rehabilitation package for its daily-wage employees.

Vittal Hegde, president of the Okkuta, alleged that the company had been attempting to brainwash its employees and turn their backs on environmentalists saying that if the environmentalists do not oppose the extension of mining, then the company would provide them with jobs. Wrongly guided by the company, the employees are now angered at the environmentalists, instead of pressurizing for a rehabilitation package.

He further demanded that the government set up a committee including representatives from the government, environmentalists, technical experts and also representatives of ‘Tungabhadra Ulisi Horata Samithi, for the environment rebuilding process.

He suggested that the government in order to restore the Kudremukh Township build a multi-speciality hospital, either in the government or private sector, as the Malnad region has the potential for multi-speciality medical care.
