Sullia, Jan 13: A 15-year-old girl was raped by a young man hailing from an elite family at Elimale in the Subrahmanya police station limits near here on Tuesday January 10.  The accused has now been arrested by the Subrahmanya police and will be produced before the court on Thursday.

The accused has been identified as Vishwanath.  He lured a teenaged girl Geeta (name has been changed to protect the identity of the victim) who was at home with her siblings.  He then took her to a nearby farm and had physical relation with her.  Though the girl herself had consented for this yet it was considered as rape since as per the law any physical relationship with the minor boy or a girl with or without the consent, is considered, as rape and the accused will be penalized.

The girl's parents were not at home when the incident took place.  When they came home, they found their daughter seriously ill.  When they asked with the girl, she refused tell anything.  But later on she disclosed the entire episode with her parents.  This created huge hue and cry in the village.

At first both the families sought an out of court settlement.  But Vishwanath refused to pay compensation to the victim.  Perturbed by this, girl's father lodged a complaint with the police who arrested Vishwanath on Wednesday January 11.

The victim girl has now been admitted to government hospital at Puttur.
