Mangalore, Jan 13: Mangalore City Corporation evicted the head-load vendors selling vegetables outside the Central Market on Thursday January 12.  Owing to the lack of place within the market area, the vegetable vendors were sitting outside beside the road and selling their vegetable produces.  This had however, created a major problem for the free flowing of traffic.

Having understood this, the MCC officials on Thursday vacated them with the help of the police.  The vegetable produce was filled in the MCC vehicle and taken.  The officials said that since the vendors were not paying taxes to the City Corporation they were asked to vacate the place.  "Moreover, it was creating a problem for the flow of traffic too.  So there was no other way than vacating them," MCC revenue official Mallaiah added.

However, Mary Machado, president of Head -load Vendors Association has flayed the MCC action.  She said that they have been forced to sit out on the roadside since there is no place within the market area.

"There are more than 400 vendors in our association.  But only 35 vendors can sit within the market.  Owing to the lack of space within the market, rest all of us have been forced to sit outside.  Though we have been demanding a spacious market building, MCC has turned a deaf ear to our demand," said she.
