Mangalore, Jan 12: Rendering a talk organized by The Institution of Engineers, Kodagu Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Engineers Association and The Institution of Valuers, on engineering approach to winds and tsunamis at Hotel Woodlands on Tuesday January 10 here, Professor Subash C Yaragal, senior lecturer department of civil engineering, NITK, Suratkal, said that unusual upheavals in sea waves may be one of the warning signs indicating a tsunami.

Any obstructions beneath the sea would cause tsunami, and the tsunami caused by an earthquake has shattering results.  He added that cyclones were more shattering than earthquakes, as they crash trees and buildings to the ground, which could cause destruction along the coast.

He asked the civic organizations to create awareness among the public about tsunami, and minimize the loss of lives.
