Mangalore, Jan 11: The finals of Eleventh Mangalore diocese-level Konkani and Fourth Kannada Elocution Competitions under the auspices of the Catholic Sabha were held on January 8 in the Milagres High School in the city.

These competions were held in four levels. Preliminary rounds were held in more than 150 parishes during October and in 15 varados in November. In December , competitions were arranged for the winners of varado level at the provincial level. The Mangalore diocese has been divided into five provinces namely: Udupi, Kinnigoli, Bantwal, Moodbidri, and Mangalore.

The winners at the provincial level participated at the diocese level. The purpose of the competition is social awareness, human resource development and promotion of local languages. The competion is held in five groups. Primary, higher primary, high school, youth and adult. This year, over 2500 peeople have taken part in the competitions.

Diocesan vicar general Msgr Fred V Pereira distributed the prizes and rolling shields.

Lower Primary: 1. Vinol Braggs,Omzoor   2. Sampreth Monteiro, Karkala   3. Vaibhav D Souza, Bendur

Higher Primary: 1. Jovita Mascaranhas, Niddodi   2. Ruvin D Souza, Mukka    3. Seema Pinto, Shirva

High School: Femina Moras, Bajpe     2. Henita Menezes, Pamboor     3. Sharal Rodrigues, Vittal

Youth : 1. Alba Lobo, Gurpur   2. Roshni Lobo, Permannur    3. Anup Lobo, Vittal

Most of the winners were from rural parishes.
