Mumbai: 7 teams compete at Devadiga Premier League

Mumbai, Jun 12: After the success of DPL 2012, which brought together cricket lovers and fans from Devadiga community across Mumbai, yet again this year the Devadiga Youth Wing organized Devadiga Premier League (DPL 2013) on June 2.

The event was managed and sponsored by active members of  Devadiga Youth Wing, Mumbai.

To begin with the event began at 9 am and was inaugurated Ramanna Devadiga and Raghu Moily Committee members of Chembur LCC.

The matches were played between 7 teams namely:

Navi Mumbai Blazing Knights
Dombivali Royals
Bhandup Blasters
Asalpha Warriors
Devadiga Brothers – City Region
Jogeshwari Tuff Fighters
Chembur Challengers

Around 250 players and supporters participated or witnessed this event.  The matches went on till 5:30 in the evening with a lunch break in between. In this series of 6 over’s matches, the First Match was played between Jogeshwari tuff fighters and Dombivali royals, which was won by Jogeshwari tuff fighters.

2nd Match of the day was between Navi Mumbai blazing knights and Asalpha warriors
and Navi Mumbai blazing knights won the match comfortably.

3rd match was the quarter final which was played between Bhandup blasters and Devadiga BROTHERS-City Region, in which Devadiga brothers-City Region beat Bhandup blasters.
Chembur challengers had got bye and made it straight to the semi finals.

Chembur Challengers won the 1st Semi Final Match against Jogeshwari Tuff Fighters
 
2nd Semi Final Match was won by Devadiga Brothers-City Region by convincingly beating Navi Mumbai Blazing Knights .

The Final Match was played between Chembur Challengers and Devadiga Brothers-City Region. Chembur Challengers showed good team work and displayed outstanding performance in all departments and won the final to become victorious in DPL for the second consecutive year, no doubt they were favorites in this year’s DPL series. With all glory and pride Chembur Challengers lifted DPL 2013 trophy as the fellow team players & crowd applauded.

The final award ceremony of DPL 2013 was organized on the same day after the final match. The Rolling Trophy of DPL was awarded to the winning team Chembur Challengers by  Girish K Devadiga and Bhaskar Shriyan.  The Runner up medals was handed over to players by  Satish Kanvatirtha. The Best Batsman’s Trophy was awarded to  Prashant Devadiga of Devadiga BROTHERS-City Region for Scoring: 46 runs and Best Bowlers Trophy was awarded to Sudhir Devadiga of Devadiga Brothers-City Region for picking up 6 Wickets. Shailesh Devadiga, chairman of Devadiga Youth Wing did the honor of awarding Best Batsman and Best Bowlers award to the winner.

The day showed some excellent batting stuff from batsmen hitting fours and sixers all over the ground. Bowlers did well with ball and made great efforts to restrict the opposite team with less score and take maximum wickets, quality fielding and some great catches were also seen.
