Dortmund turn down Bayern's move for Lewandowski

Berlin, Jun 10 (IANS): German football club Borrussia Dortmund turned down Bayern Munich's move for Polish striker Robert Lewandowski.

"Robert Lewandowski will definitely not go to Bayern. That is our final decision. We have now made it clear to Robert and his advisors," Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watz said in an interview with the Bild, German largest-circulated newspaper Sunday, reports Xinhua.

Having lost Mario Goetze, one of Dortmund's star midfielder, to Bayern, its management staff faces mounting pressure for transferring key players to the arch rivals.

Still with one year remaining on his contract with Dortmund, Lewandowski, who rose to international fame with BVB, had earlier expressed his personal wish to join Bayern Munich during the normal transfer at the end of the season.

Unwilling to lose a possible transfer fee of up to 25 or 30 million euros if the current contract expires until 2014, Borussia Dortmund sports director Michael Zorc had confirmed his club agreed to release the 24-year-old star striker on transfer market earlier.

The Polish star striker, who scored 24 goals in the Bundesliga and 10 in the Champions League this season, had already long been widely tipped to join Bayern Munich.
