Modi takes dig at Advani, describes Rajnath as 'large hearted'

Watch Video

Panaji, June 9 (PTI): Narendra Modi today appeared to take a dig at BJP veteran L K Advani and other leaders who stayed away from the National Executive, as he praised party chief Rajnath Singh for being "large hearted" which "outsiders won't understand".

At a meeting of BJP workers here, Modi praised Singh who said the Gujarat Chief Minister should deliver his address after him as "a popular leader must speak at the end".

"I am very grateful to party President Rajnath Singh that he not only gave me responsibility of a new task, but he also gave me huge respect in front of workers and people of the country. I am very grateful to him," Modi said in his first comments on his anointment as the BJP's Campaign Committee Chairman.

"Rajnathji stood up to speak and asked me to sit. It is difficult for those outside to understand the importance of this. A person does not do so only by having a post but by having a heart. This is called 'daria dilli' (large heartedness), which the President has shown," Modi said.

He did not elaborate further, but appeared to take a dig at Advani and some others who stayed away from the National Executive as they were said to be opposed to his elevation.

At the same time, he said his political career has been "moulded" by senior party leaders, who spent more time with him than their own families. Modi addressed the workers in the presence of Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.

Sushma Swaraj was supposed to speak, but conspicuous by her absence.
Earlier, Singh said his decision to make Modi as the campaign committee chief was "not for the party but for the country." He said he had no hesitation in taking this significant decision as this was "well deserved".

It's official : Modi named BJP's poll campaign chief

Goa, Jun 9 (Agencies) : Putting an end to national speculation, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh on Sunday announced Narendra Modi as the Chairman of the party's Campaign Committee for 2014 general elections. Singh made the announcement at the end of the two-day executive meeting.

Modi was recently appointed a member of the party's parliamentary board.

Stating that Modi will lead BJP to victory in the elections, Rajnath Singh said that the party has taken the decision with consensus.

Earlier, Rajnath Singh told BJP cadres, "We are the only alternative, will bring about change." "From corruption to misgovernance, this country has been let down by the government," he added.

Earlier in the day, speaking to BJP cadres at Goa, Narendra Modi said, "We need the country free from Congress rule. Nation has never seen such brazenness and people are angry with Congress."

"People still believe institutions and remember the work of Atal Bihari Vajpayee even today with confidence," said Modi.

Modi took a jibe at UPA's Bharat Nirman campaign stating that instead of 'Aapka hak',it is a case of 'Aapka shak', implying that the citizens of the country are suspicious of the national pitch by Congress.

Stating that there is a deficit of trust in the country, Modi went on to say that 'throwing out' Congress is a national not a political campaign.

Reflecting the mood in the party ranks, Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar said Modi should be the "face of the party" at least six months before the general elections. Even Uma Bharati, seen to be close to Advani, wrote to party chief Rajnath Singh saying she will support any decision the party takes.

BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said that the party can not ignore expectations of BJP workers.

Hussain announced that the BJP will hold nationwide protests against the UPA government from June 17 to June 22.

Elections are still a year away , And by the way what was the seat count of BJP in Karnataka elections !! Yes corruption is a big issue !! But a leader with blood of thousand of innocents in his hand wont be accepted by India !!

So no one is loosing sleep over Modi becoming whatever chief , cos it doesnt matter much . With Modi at helm the BJP ship will sink much further than what was expected !!

So be happy for sometime Dinesh !! After the drubbing in Karnataka this is silver lining for some days , which will also turn into a worst nightmare !!

A person not liked by ALL cannot be choosen as a leader. Whatever UPA may be, Mr. Manmohan Singh has been proved Mr. Clean and liked by all. It was our fault not electing single majority party. If you see the record, majority curruption done by UPA alliance ministers( non congress). No doubt strict action already have been taken against them. Despite not in ruling party, Gadkari proved himself most currupted. Imagine how many of BJP's would have been in the same had they been ruling India. Being a most senior and experienced person Advani knows, it will be a disaster to BJP in 2014 election if they elect Modi a P.M. Hence he is not in favour of him...

Today onwards many people in India will loose their good sleep with the news of elivation Modi as BJPs election campaign supremo the day long waited by crores of patriots who were thronging to see an able leader to lead BJPs elction campaign in 2014.Naturally his oppnents were under deep shock and afraid that their game plan in failing in fooling the people hitherto being done.Todays speech of Modi might have viewed live by crores of his fans as well as opponents, psuedo secularists, anti nationals, corrupts which clearly proves his popularity.123 comments on the Namoism in this news item is also a proof of popularity of Modi.

I HAD A HEARTY LAUGH AT KR PRABHU'S COMMENTS WHEN HE SAID MANY WILL HAVE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS AT THE ELEVATION OF MODI TO THE TOP POST.

WELL, FIRST OF ALL MANY IN THE BJP CAMP MUST HAVE LOST SLEEP MOST CERTAINLY..

THIS IS HOW WE ALL EXPECTED TO END

MODI TO THE TOP POST AND MOST LEADERS WITHIN BJP HAVE STARTED THEIR REVERSE JOURNEY..

THERE WILL BE A FEW MORE NDA ALLIES LOSING SLEEP ALREADY, INCLUDING JDU NITISH KUMAR

OF COURSE MODI HAS A BAR AND KR. PRABHU HAS AS ALTOGETHER A DIFFERENT BAR...

EXCEPT IN GUJARATH, HE MAY WIN ANOTHER 10 TIMES, BUT IN ENTIRE INDIA, MODI WINNING WILL BE ONLY A DREAM OF THOSE WHO CELEBRATE NOW.

Well Said. The BJP lovers in this forum do not understand that they need national figure not a state figure. Nobody likes Kerala, TN, AP, etc. CM to become a PM of the country. The people of respective states want their CM to become PM but it never happens since we are all crabs. Modi might have done good job Gujrath but has he done anything good for the rest of the country except a bad name in Hindu-muslim riots. So forget BJP coming into power. If he has been projected as a future PM then surely congress need not to worry about the 2014 elections.

I do not surprise at your comments as yours was biased on political lines like always and not based on factuals. And also many might have laughed at Modi's elevation.Your doddanna Diggy also seen laughing yesterday but that was under fear if you closely observe him on TV.You people must be happy on the occasion as the event is looked as a boost for Congress and allies but it is not so! You people have another chance in your attempt to fool minorities especially muslims whom your party used them since six decades to cook your food by keeping them seperate in the soceity by not providing education, guidence resultant large chunk of their youths failed to fall in the line with fellow citizens in terms of good job/business opperunities and forced them to be in anti social acts, taking up jobs like garage machanics, gujari sales ,old paper sales, cycle stores/repairs,tin works etc.,They never relaised till now that they are being exploited for political reasons what we call call as persuing vote bank poliitics.Dear Doddanna your people are reluctant to change this senario as it will harm the political prospectus of the party.
Therefore I advise you to continue your laughing as much as you can till 2014 elections are over as there after wards you people have to weep continuelouly....

Mr.Prabhu , I guess you are still leaving in 70's i guess when Majority of muslims used to do the jobs which you have described . But during those time who was in better situation other than main Majorities ( Brahmins /Konkans) ...Who was better off during those economically tough times ?? Please let me know !!

But situation has now changed a lot muslim have a good percentage of education and leave in much situation than those described you . Do travel to Udupi/DK sometimes to check this .

And what is there to fool the minorities , was there such hue & cry when Mr.Vajpayeeji became PM ? Do tell !! No there was not .

This Fekuu is opposed because he is communal , a deeply divisivy figure with blood of thouands of innocents in his hand .

Comments, shares and likes in the social media and positions like these wont make Modi the PM. Pramod Mahajan in 2004 & Arun Jaitley in 2009 were also Chairmen of BJP's Campaign Committee. We know what happened then.

Secular, progressive, liberal minded Hindus like me who believe in cohesive peaceful living with our minorities & dalits and believe in One India philosophy form the majority in India & will continue voting against the BJP led by Modi the man who introduced ethnic cleansing to India or Advani who as described by Khushwant Singh was the man who sowed the dragon seeds of hatred in this country with his Somnath to Ayodhya yatra.

Regarding Advani, he is most respected leader of BJP. He is not cheated. We need to think about country first and then persons. India needs DEVELOPMENT, VISION, PROGRESS. At present Modi can deliver these. I feel for the welfare of the country, Advani will sacrifice. You might be aware, Advani gave green signal for Modi's leadership. It is not the hype. It is the NEED for the country. People protested Advan's house and it is for Modi's favor. Now just try hard how to prepare your amul baby for the game. Good luck..

Hello Mr.Ravi Shetty, Don't you know the saying 'Every one is a Lion in his own territory' Modi is a hero only in Gujarat and a big zero outside Gujrath. BJP banked on his speech in Mangaluru - nothing happened. The innocent blood spilt of those killed in the Gujarath riots wil NOT go in vain. I bet Modi will never be a successful PM. Congress has better business than to worry on Modi's nomination. Any way you take care. Cheers!

“Modi” brand name itself is enough for Congress to flee from Central. This is the last nail in Congress coffin. Even after doing so much scams in Central Government if Congress still comes to power means we have to blame our people only. But I foresee only one problem with BJP i.e. “Ram Mandir Issue” If they dig out this issue again, they may lose once again. We don’t need another Mandir, Masjid or Church now. Only we need is development without corruption or scams. Today our currency is fallen to 57 Rupees per US Dollar which is all time low in the History of India. Being NRE may be we are happy to send our hard earned money back to India now but looking and thinking about middle class people in India, just imagine how much extra money they have to shell out to purchase day-to-day essential products. Next is diesel and petrol price and then follows fruits and vegetables, etc, etc

Modi is a non-entity othan than Gujrath and has serious reservations in many states due to his non-secular approach

Please note that people hate MODI in states like Kerala,Karnataka, Tamilnadu,Andrapradesh,Westbengal,Orissa,Assam,J&K,Delhi and to major extent in UP & Bihar

So this annoucement looks more Advantage UPA and Advantage NDA

Thanks to this decision of making Modi the chief which means the BJP has pressed the 'self-destruct' button not only for the party but for India too if they do manage to come to power (which is quite unlikely). It would also be interesting to see the fallout of this decision by the BJP with regard to how the allies react especially Nitish Kumar's JD(U),Shiv Sena & the BJD(Orissa).

It is now clear that LK Advani who nurtured the BJP and helped it rise to a party with national recognition has been stabbed in the back by his own partymen.

The BJP may present a united appearance but under the surface it is now permanently divided and maybe sometime not in the distant future you may see a BJP(Modi) party and a separate BJP(Vajpayee or Advani) party.

Vertical divide in BJP among moderates and hardliners.
Apart from JDU, Biju J.D, BSP and Samajwadi, communists will also have to make seat sharing arrangements with UPA or in order to avoid loss of vote shares!
If you refer the history closely, fascists never succeeded be it in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq and so many more countries!

This is exaclty Advanjee want, Project Modi as PM candidate, get as much as possible seats and he will decide who is going to be PM after election. ie, himself.
